How Do Infrared Heaters Work?
The infrared heating technology in our portable furnace heats in a manner similar to the sun's rays,gently and evenly warming the air without drying it. We call this infrared energy. Other space heaters can scorch and eliminate moisture in the air in your home as they heat, much like a hair dryer dries wet hair as it heats. Our infrared heaters, however, use the humidity in the air to spread moist, even heat throughout your space. Infrared energy is pure radiation and is absorbed by an object without physical contact with the heat source itself or by heating the surrounding air, as is the case with conventional forced air systems. In other words, the infrared energy that is emitted by the heater is absorbed by sinks, flooring, fixtures, etc. It's the ultimate source for safe and reliable heat. Also keep in mind that by heating the objects in the room, temperatures can be maintained longer and you will save money month after month.
When you turn on your new infrared heater, heating elements warm up within the heating chamber. Once the elements inside have reached the proper temperature, a quiet scroll-style fan pulls air inside and through the heating chamber. The air is gently warmed as it passes through a heating chamber and is then pushed out the front of the portable heating unit for clean warmth time and time again.

Instead, its heat is absorbed by people and objects just like the sun's rays on a gorgeous summer day, where it is then radiated to the surrounding space. The air is not disturbed, and there is no wind and dust ciruculated throughout the room.

Types of Infrared Heaters
How do you create a heat source from infrared light? It really depends on which type of infrared heater we're talking about.
Infrared heaters running off electricity contain a heating element. Most commonly, this heating element consists of tungsten filaments that are contained in heat-resistant quartz tubes. It looks a lot like a florescent light bulb. Behind this “light bulb” is a reflector to direct the heat away from the heater and into the room.
These heaters run on natural gas, propane, or oil. Running fuel through a central steel tube can create tube temperatures up to 1100 degrees. Just like with an electric heater, reflectors in the unit convert the heat from the tube into infrared heat and direct it into the room. Tube heaters are considered low-intensity heaters and are ideally used for heating entire rooms, even large industrial spaces.
Ceramic heaters work just like tube heaters. Instead, a ceramic surface reaches temperatures of approximately 1800 degrees. These high-intensity heaters require more clearance, meaning they should not be in close contact with combustible objects. You can easily heat an entire building with a ceramic heater.
Now that we've covered your basic types of infrared heaters, you should know there are many different options in terms of style. Rest assured, you can always find an infrared heater for your specific needs. Here are the basic styles to choose from:
Small infrared space heaters are perfect for heating a small area of your home like a drafty den or bathroom. They are typically lightweight and easy to transport from one room to another so you can heat only the area you are going to be in. This makes them extremely cost-effective as opposed to heating the entire house. Indoor infrared heaters are most commonly electric, which means they are very simple to operate and affordable as well.
These large infrared heaters are perfectly designed for outdoor entertaining for any size of gathering. Table top infrared heaters are great for an intimate dinner while full-size standing infrared heaters are better for larger parties since they have a wider heating radius. However, if you're throwing the bash of the century, go big with some wall-mounted infrared heaters. While they require a little more installation, they can effectively heat an area of approximately 100 square feet! Patio heaters can run on electricity, natural gas, or propane.
These specialized heaters are not meant for home use but are perfect for construction sites both outdoor and contained. Construction infrared heaters are also called tank top heaters because their heating element is a stainless steel or ceramic tank. They are best used for spot heating or as part of a warm-up station.
Why Use Infrared Heaters?
According to the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, more than 50 million Americans suffer from seasonal allergies. If you are part of this large demographic, you should now that using infrared heaters could dramatically reduce your symptoms at home. Central heating systems or even portable forced-air heaters collect allergens during the months they are not being used. Dust, dander, mites, even mold spores can collect in the units. Turning them on during that first fall chill releases these irritants into the air of your home and can wreak havoc on your sinuses. This will not happen with infrared heaters since they do not circulate heated air.
Infrared heaters can reduce energy usage by 15% of more, according to the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers. This is largely because infrared heaters can effectively direct heat where you need it the most, which is known as “spot heating.”
However, keep in mind that different heating needs require different set-ups and equipment. If you would like to heat an entire building with infrared heaters, using one large unit would not be efficient. Instead, using 2-3 infrared heaters and placing them strategically will yield the best results.

Causes of this include a gradual decrease in fat and muscle as we age, poor circulation, low blood pressure, and congestive heart failure.
